Our editorial policy for siding content
How we research and write about siding for Boston homes, and what we will never publish.
Sources
Where our facts come from
Statements about permits, licensing, lead paint and codes come from official sources such as the City of Boston, Mass.gov and the US EPA, and each one is numbered on the page that uses it. Material behavior comes from manufacturer installation instructions and federal building-science resources. Local housing history comes from preservation organizations and city records.
Standards
Rules every page follows
- No figures for what jobs run on any service, area or guide page.
- No claims of local jobs, crews, response times, reviews or awards.
- Advice stops where safety or code requires a professional.
- Headings and text are written for this site only.
Images
How we use images
Photos on this site are AI-generated illustrations created for this site and labelled as such where they show a before-and-after or a type of job. They are never presented as proof of work.
Corrections
Corrections and updates
Rules change. When a source changes or a reader points out an error, we update the page and its date. Call the number on the site to report a correction.
Review
How pages are reviewed
Pages are checked against their sources when written and reviewed when rules change, such as permit procedures or registration requirements.
Independence
Independence from contractors
The contractors who take calls do not write or approve our content. Being connected to a contractor is not an endorsement of their work, so check registration and get the scope in writing.
